Step 1: Certification
As little as two weeks for students who complete the coursework quickly and can join our next monthly live session.* Typically 8-12 weeks at a steady, working pace.
Step 2: Private-Pay Clients
Available immediately after certification. No waiting period. Typical range: $1,200-$3,000+ per birth in California.
Step 3: Medi-Cal Enrollment (DHCS/PAVE)
Roughly 60-90 days for a complete application, submitted through the state's PAVE portal. This step qualifies you to bill Medi-Cal fee-for-service directly. Medi-Cal reimburses per visit and service, initial visit, prenatal/postpartum visits, and labor support, adding up to over $2,000 per pregnancy at full utilization.
Step 4: Managed Care Plan Credentialing
A separate process, done individually with each Medi-Cal managed care plan in your county (Health Net, Molina, Anthem, L.A. Care, and others), typically another 60-90 days. Since most Medi-Cal members are enrolled in managed care, this step is what actually lets you serve the majority of Medi-Cal clients in your area.
